Get to know the old town of Palma: City tour 1

  • Starting point is the park in front of the Almudaina.
  • The tour leads from the former Royal Palace to La Seu Cathedral, then via Estudio General to Calle Portella to the Museo de Mallorca.
  • Then to the church of San Francisco with a detour to Calle Serra with its Arab baths, on to the church of Santa Eulalia on the square of the same name and past the town hall into the pedestrian zone Calle Colon and Plaza Mayor.
  • On the north side of Plaza Major down the stairs and up the Rambla (Via Roma) to the church of Santa Magdalena and as a detour to the Heiliggeist-Kirche of the large Hospital General.
  • Back over Calle San Jaime and over Plaza Weyler and back up the stairs to Plaza Mayor.
  • From there, take a northward detour along Calle San Miguel to Plaza Olivar with the market of the same name (only in the morning), which is Palma's most beautiful market (the fish hall is very impressive).
  • Continue to the Plaza de Espana on the northeast side of which is the terminus of the "Red Lightning", the old railway to Soller.
  • Continue to the church of Santa Margarita.
  • Via the wide pedestrian zone of Oms back down to the Rambla and along the "Blumenallee" Paseo del Borne back to the starting point.
  • From there along the Paseo Maritimo to the old stock exchange La Lonja and the Consolado del Mar.

City tour 2: La Lonja, Santa Catalina, Castell de Bellver and the Parc De Mar

  • Starting point is the Paseo Maritimo at the intersection with Avenida Maura.
  • From there to Plaza de la Reina and across Plaza del Rey Juan Carlos to Sant Jaume street.
  • At the church of the same name turn left into Gaverrera and left again over the Agua back to the upscale shopping street Avenida Rey Jaime III.
  • From here further to Paseo Mallorca, then left to Plaza Porta de Santa Catalina with a detour to the quarter Es Jonquet with its 3 windmill ruins high above the harbour, and over the Olivera/San Pedro back to Paseo Maritimo.
  • Go west across Plaza Puente to Andrea Doria street and follow the sign to Pueblo Español on the right.
  • From there over the San Armadans to Parc Bellver with Castell Bellver.
  • Then you can continue the tour by car or bus to the western suburbs of Terreno, San Agustin, llletas, Portals Nous and Costa Bendinat.
  • Walks along the sea promenade (Paseo Maritimo) from the harbour to the Parc del Mar just below the cathedral.
