Properties in Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca
Description of Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa
Pollensa is located in the north-eastern part of Mallorca on the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana. The area around Pollensa belongs to the oldest settlement area of the island. The bridge over the Torrent San Jordi dates from Roman times. The city was not founded until the Reconquista (not to be confused with Pollentia, the Roman city near Alcudia). The traditional main industries are the production of shoes and wickerwork as well as the textile industry. Village houses apartments and flats have to offer Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa regarding real estate.
Worth seeing in and around the town:
The parish church Nuestra Senora de los Angeles on the main square was built in the 13th century and renovated in the 18th/19th century. Inside you can see beautiful wall and ceiling paintings. On the Calvary of El Calvari stands a baroque pilgrimage church with a staircase leading to it. On Puig de Maria stands the 13th-16th century Ermita Nuestra Senora del Puig, with Gothic panel paintings in the refectory. On the Cabo Formentor/Cap Formentor peninsula, which is one of the most impressive excursion destinations on the island, a detour to the Talaia d'Albercutx pirate tower, visible from afar, is worthwhile. From the height you have an overwhelming panoramic view. About 6 km north of Pollensa, on a 500-metre-high rock spur, lies the now decayed Königsburg/Castillo del Rey (Castell del Rey), which in Moorish times was one of the most important defensive structures and repeated refuge for Mallorcan kings. The hiking trail to the Königsburg is only possible for the public by prior registration in Pollensa and the number of visitors is very limited.
Walks and hikes:
A staircase with 365 cypress-lined steps leads to Calvary. At an altitude of 170 m you have a wonderful view of the houses of the city and the extensive orchards. A strenuous walk leads to the monastery mountain Puig de Maria (320 m). Circular hike from Mortitx - Rafal De Ariant - Sa Cova De Ses Bruixes - Mortitx, distance: 8 km, walking time: 4 hours, difficulty level: very difficult, only for very experienced mountain hikers. To and from the Boquer Valley from Puerto Pol Lenga. Distance: 6 km, walking time: 2.5 hours, degree of difficulty: easy.
