Airbnb and Ibiza improve holiday rental regulations
Airbnb and the Consell d’Eivissa are working together to ensure compliance with holiday rental regulations in Ibiza.
Starting April 1, new listings must include a unique registration number to ensure transparency and compliance with regulations. The platform will also (once again) share data with the authorities to prevent illegal listings (usually in vain). Airbnb is also participating in the Mesa de Intrusismo (Measure of Intrusion) to combat the illegal tourism sector.
Airbnb and the Consell d'Eivissa (Eivissa Council) have taken a "significant step" in their collaboration to ensure compliance with holiday rental regulations in Ibiza and promote the quality of the tourism offering.
This measure is intended to facilitate the inspection and identification of properties by the relevant authorities and ensure that only licensed accommodations are rented through the platform. Airbnb's system will only accept registration numbers in a specific, verifiable format to ensure compliance.
In addition, new hosts must agree to share their personal information, such as their name, address, and identification documents, with the authorities if necessary for inspection purposes. In parallel, Airbnb is launching an "information campaign" to educate hosts about the new European legislation and the requirements for registration and licensing in Spain.
The fight against windmills continues... "Fighting illegal listings"
As part of its commitment to responsible tourism, Airbnb has confirmed its participation in the Consell d'Eivissa's Mesa de Intrusismo (Mesa of Intrusis). This body, composed of representatives from the public and private sectors, aims to combat illegal tourism offerings.
This initiative is part of a joint effort involving other organizations in the sector, including the Asociación de Viviendas Turísticas Vacacionales de Ibiza (AVAT), the Federación Empresarial Hotelera de Ibiza y Formentera (FEHIF), and Fomento del Turismo. Airbnb's presence in this forum reportedly makes it possible to work together to strengthen the regulated offer on the island.
The Consell's Consell for Tourism Regulation and Combating Illegal Rentals emphasized the importance of this agreement: "This step will make access to unregulated offers more difficult and improve the quality of the accommodation sector on the island. It is an important tool that marks a significant change," he asserted.
The Director General of Tourism of the Government of the Balearic Islands described this collaboration as an "exportable model" for the rest of the archipelago. The Director General of Airbnb Marketing Services, SL, also emphasized the platform's commitment to responsible tourism and compliance: "We want Ibiza to remain a great destination by promoting respect for local regulations and helping locals rent responsibly."
