Sport: The beautiful golf courses on Mallorca

The Olympic sport of golf is also played by, but by no means only by, golf professionals. Golf has been developing for some time now into a popular leisure and hobby sport for ever

The more than a dozen golf courses on Mallorca are spread along the coast around the island. The majority of them are in close proximity to well-known hotels. Due to the cooperation between the hotel and the golf club, hotel guests are welcome guest golfers on Mallorca. Anyone who lives on the island permanently will soon decide to become a club member. The golf courses are literally embedded in the island's landscape, and each of them has its own unique selling point. This makes choosing the right or even the most beautiful golf course on Mallorca extremely difficult.

In the north of the island, holidaymakers will find the Golf Pollenca golf course, named after the small town of the same name a few kilometers away. The 9-hole golf course was opened in the mid-1980s and completely renovated twenty years later. The course is located on a small hill; it offers golfers a wide view of the Bay of Pollenca from both the clubhouse and the course.

A second option on the north coast of Mallorca is the Alcanada golf course in the municipality of Alcudia. The 18-hole course is classified as a challenging golf course with a medium to high level of difficulty. It includes a clubhouse, restaurant and pro shop, as well as a driving range and attractive green fee prices. Most of the golf courses offer a direct view of the Bay of Alcudia.

On the north-east coast, holidaymakers and Mallorca residents can choose from several golf courses. These include the Son Servera golf club near the town of Arta, the Canyamel golf course, the Club Capdepera Golf and the Pula Golf golf course. All golf courses are open all year round. The small town of Arta, with its approximately seven thousand inhabitants, is a popular tourist destination in this region; the golf courses are all in the immediate vicinity of Arta. The Pula Golf Club boasts a two-story driving range and a spacious practice area with practice bunkers, putting greens and chipping/pitching areas. And the Canyamel Golf Course offers golf courses for beginners and advanced players on its 18-hole course with individual and group training courses.

In the southeast of Mallorca, the Vall D'Or Golf golf club is the only one far and wide. Golfers with a handicap of 36 or more are welcome at the 18-hole course. The course is hilly and offers a panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea alongside a pristine tree population. Guests are expressly welcome all year round.

In the southwest of Mallorca, with more than half a dozen golf courses, the largest and most varied offer is available. The most famous of these include the Golf Son Termens golf club, the Golf de Andratx golf club near the small port town of Port d'Andratx, the Golf de Poniente club, and the private Santa Ponsa III golf club in the municipality of Calvia. With its 9-hole course, it is an insider tip for Mallorca residents because only club members can play golf here. Golf Santa Ponsa I and II, on the other hand, are golf courses for holidaymakers and guests. With practice areas, driving ranges, courses or a golf academy for beginners and advanced players in different age/ability classes, every golfer will find something suitable in one of the golf clubs.

The Real Golf de Bendinat golf club, in English "the royal" in the municipality of Calvia is located about twelve kilometers from the island's capital, Palma. The Spanish King Juan Carlas is honorary president of the golf club, which opened in the mid-1980s. With its narrow fairways and pronounced hillside location, the 18-hole course is a challenge even for experts. The course is almost five kilometers long and is open to guests all year round. The Son Muntaner golf course is conveniently located in the Arabelle Golf Resort, just three kilometers from Palma. The 18-hole course was opened in 2000. With a "dress code for golfers" including soft spikes, great importance is placed on sporting etiquette. Guests are welcome all year round both in the club restaurant, which is open daily, and on the golf course.

Inland, just under thirty kilometers north of Palma, lies the Iberostar Resort with the two golf courses Son Antem East and Son Antem West. A golf course with several hundred tees, a large putting green, chipping/pitching areas and a driving range offer a wide range of opportunities for practice and training. The facility with its two 18-hole golf courses was opened in the early 2000s. The connection to the luxurious Iberostar hotel makes a golf holiday here particularly attractive.

In summary, neither holidaymakers nor residents have to give up their hobby of golf on Mallorca. Each of the golf courses offers its own beauty and sporting challenges all year round.
